How can I find out more about a school?

Go to open evening

Ask your parents if you can go to the open evening together. This will give you both a good opportunity to have a look around the school and find out more about it.

Ask children who go to the school what it's like

They will know a lot about the school. There are often pupils of the secondary schools at the open evenings.

Look at the Internet

Lots of schools have their own websites, which is a great way of finding out information.

Get a prospectus

This is a brochure about the secondary school. It will contain lots of information about the school, and you can get these at the open evenings.

Look on a map to find out where it is

It may be that you are really interested in a certain school, but when you look on a map, it is too far from where you live. Think about this and if you're unsure talk to your parents or carers.

Ask about facilities

This is something you can ask about at the open evenings. You might be able to have a tour of the school. The school will probably have some facilities that you do not have at your primary school, like lockers.

Look at the school specialism

Some schools have specialist subjects. This is worth finding out, as there may be a subject you are really good at or enjoy.
